Chicken Xacuti










Ingredients

1 and 1/2 Kg Chicken, Cut into small pieces
Xacuti Masala same amount as in the recipe mentioned
200 gms Curd
2 Limes
Salt as per requirement
4 Strands Curry Leaves, Curry Leaves separated from the strand
3 Medium Sized Onions, Chopped
3 Medium Sized Tomatoes, Chopped
2 Medium Sized Green Chilies, Slit and seeds removed
2 Medium Sized Potatoes, Chopped into large cubes
4 - 5 Tbsps Oil

Chicken Xacuti - The Marinated Chicken

Preparation

1. Cut the chicken into small pieces, wash the pieces well. Salt the chicken pieces and add curd and lime, marinate for about an hour. Adding curd and lime depends upon your requirement, instead of lime more curd can be added or instead of curd more lime can be added. I have combined the two.

2. Now take a large vessel, add 4 - 5 tablespoons of oil, once hot add the curry leaves, onions, and chilies, once onions are translucent, add the tomatoes.

Cook till tomatoes are soft.

3. Now add in the xacuti masala. Cook till the oil oozes out from the masala. Cook the masala well on medium flame.

4. Once the masala has been cooked, add the chicken pieces. Stir-fry well so that the chicken blends well with the xacuti masala. Now add salt as per your taste. Don't add water when cooking the chicken as the chicken oozes out some amount of water. If the water is less then you may add as per your need.

5.  Allow the chicken to cook till it is soft. Also, add some largely sized potato cubes when cooking the chicken.

6. Close the vessel with a lid and cook the chicken on a medium flame for around 10 - 15 minutes. Check if the chicken is cooked by poking a fork through a meaty chicken piece.

7. Once cooked turn off the flame. Serve hot with rice, bread or chapatis.
