King Fish Ambot Tik

Ingredients

6 Pieces of King Fish, Slices of King Fish
3 - 4 Tbsp Oil
1 Medium Sized Onion
1 Medium Sized Tomato
1 Tbsp Garlic Paste
2 Tbsp Recheado Masala Paste
2 Pieces of Kokum
Salt to taste
1/2 Cup of Water

Preparation

1. I got the King Fish cleaned and cut into slices. Now add salt to the King Fish slices and keep aside.

2. Peel off the onion skin and wash the tomato thoroughly well. Chop the onions and tomatoes into fine pieces. keep the Garlic Paste and the Recheado Masala Paste ready.

3. Now take a vessel, add 3 - 4 tablespoons of oil. Heat the oil, now add the chopped onion to the heated oil, stir fry till onions turn translucent.

4. Now add the Garlic Paste to the chopped onions turned translucent. Stir fry till you have a nice strong aroma of garlic. Then add the chopped tomato, stir fry for a few seconds and add two tablespoons of Recheado Masala Paste. Stir fry till tomatoes are nice and soft. Also add two pieces of kokum to get a nice sour taste. As the name suggests 'Ambot Tik' is in Konkani language and it means 'Sour and Spicy'.

5. Now add a half cup of water and allow the above mixture to cook to form a nice thick paste.

6. Once you have got the desired thickness of the gravy, add the King Fish slices into the gravy and cook for a few minutes i.e around 10 - 15 minutes until the fish has cooked, do not overcook as the fish may get soft and break into pieces.

7. Taste the gravy and add extra salt if needed. Serve hot with rice.

8. This is a famous Goan dish of King Fish where 'Ambot' means 'Sour' and 'Tik' means 'Spicy'. The King Fish has fewer bones and the most expensive fish in town. But it is the best fish for your taste buds, to all you fish lovers try the Goan King Fish Ambot Tik.
